Face was always linked with social information which was categorized as positive trait or negative trait. Different traits have different effect on face memory. Compared to negative description, positive description can enhance the participants’ judgment of related faces. Our research used the direct description of a person, “good person” or “bad person”, to test this hypothesis and its underlying mechanism. In experiment one and experiment two we found that the advantage of “good person” in recall memory and source memory. In experiment three, we use the extent of arousing emotion as covariance to retest the advantage of “good person” in recall memory. The result of experiment three showed that emotion has no effect on the advantage of “good person” in face memory. In experiment four, we found that the explicit and implicit self-good might led to the advantage of “good person” in face memory. Furthermore, in experiment five we found that the processing method of “good person” and “bad person” is different. When we saw a face of “good person”, the holistic processing was used. Overall, this research found out the advantage of “good person” in face memory, and explained the influence of social category on that.
