Communication and coordination in software development are important issues, which will influence software productivity and usability. Based on the structured investigation on middle and small-size software organizations in china, the study focuses on: (1) what communication and coordination techniques are more often used among software development teams; (2) what project characteristics determin the use and value-estimate of communication and coordination techniques; (3) what is the relationship between activities of communication and coordination and quality of project output; (4) Communication and coordination regression model. The results of study indicates that:
1 .Informal verbal communication techniques are mostly used and valued most in software development teams. Aiding information sources, which are easier to be got in geography and less difficult to be coordinated, are tend to be chosen.
2. Project size as project character positively correlates with the use of formal written communication, formal verbal communication and electronic communication techniques. Project uncertainty as project character negatively correlates with the use of formal written communication, and all the coordination techniques in the study.
3 .Formal verbal communication notably correlates with and coordination techniques. The project productivity and user satisfaction are influenced by coordination activity as shared information. The quality of software development process is influenced by coordination activity as development approach orderlize. The quality of information informed is influenced by the formal communication techniques and coordination activities as project care and information share. The quality of information informed will influence the quality of development process and finally even influence the quality of products.
