The Study on the Internalized Reciprocity Disposition for Chinese Workers

The reciprocity refers to rewarding kind for kind and returning unkind for unkind as a basic social norm. The researchers pay a less attention to the internalized reciprocity norm in organizational behaviors, however it plays an important role in the interaction among employees, managers and organizations. The objective of the current study was to develop a reliable and valid scale of internalized reciprocity norm scale and explore the status of reciprocity disposition of Chinese. Method: 529 adults were investigated with the pool of 24 items, the data were tested with the item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: the formal scale of internalized reciprocity norm with 10 items had a good internal consistency reliability and construct validity. The levels of reciprocity and positive reciprocity were obviously above the medium, and there were no significant sex, area and age differences of internalized reciprocity, negative reciprocity and positive reciprocity. Conclusion: the internalized reciprocity norm scale has a good reliability and validity, which can be used to estimate the reciprocity disposition in the empirical study. The internalized reciprocity disposition is prevalent and intermediate for Chinese, especially positive reciprocity.
