NoteTwo experiments were made to investigat the combined influence of syntactic adjuncts and accent patterns on the acceptability and comprehension of spoken utterances. Experiments varied the information status of questions according to whether the argument was not or was mentioned in the question, and the answer sentence varied according to which word or words received accent. The results showed that the new modifier received accent and the given modifier didn’t, and the modifier couldn’t project focus.
