The current study aims to investigate the contingent relationship between SMMs and team performance, which remains an under-research topic in the literature. We speculate that team interdependence or team construct climate will negatively moderate the effect of SMMs on team performance; task complexity will positively moderate the effect of SMMs on team performance, and intra-team task conflict will mediate the effect of SMMs on team performance. We conducted a field survey about teams from a large telecommunication corporation in China, whose responsibilities were in charge of the operation, monitoring, maintenance, emergent corresponding and other management of the core telecommunication network facilities. Our first study showed that the interaction between SMMs and team interdependence was significant and negative, suggesting that the effect of SMMs on team performance was negatively moderated by team interdependence. When team interdependence was low, SMMs were positively and significantly related to team performance. While when team interdependence was high, the effect of SMMs on team performance was not significant. The second study indicated that task complexity moderated the relationship between SMMs and performance. Specifically, SMMs enhanced team performance only when task complexity was high.Employin
