AbstractThe locomotor activity (LA) of rats were tested every 15mins for 95mins after saline or 8,4,2,1mg/kg/day of morphine were injected intraperitoneally for a duration of 8 days. The result of recording the number of squares the rats passed in 5mins indicated that LA could be induced significantly with a minimum dosage of 4mg/kg/day. The peak effect of this dosage occured 15-20mins after injection, and increased over the course of the experiment. Conditioned place preference and self-administration may be associated with lower dosages of morphine, and rats may be more susceptible to these behavioral effects within 20mins of injection.
