摘要This research extends the traditional approach to managers' assessment by introducing the notion of competence. 20 IT managers, twelve superior managers and eight average managers in China, were interviewed by using Behavioral Event Interview (BEI). The interviews were coded using standard of competence frequencies and levels. We found that superior performers and average performer are different on 11 competencies: impact and influence, organizational commitment, information seeking, achievement orientation, team leadership, interpersonal understanding, initiative, customer service orientation, self-confidence and developing others. And superior performers and average performers have different competencies structural models.
