摘要Three experiments were designed to explore the role of 2nd order Theory of Mind in children’s comprehension of irony. Experiment 1 confirmed the correlation between these 2 factors, but further analysis showed that this correlation was indirect. Experiment 2 found that the prompt about irony speaker’s second order mental state did not contribute to children’s comprehension of irony. Experiment 3 showed that knowledge training about irony could significantly improve the comprehension of irony in children without TOM2. We concluded that at least for children in early stage of irony comprehension, the difficulty is mainly from the lack of knowledge.
