AbstractThe author hypothesized that the two factors of human― preference for instrumental activities and sexual sensitivity― are closely related to mental health and self-concept. To testify the hypothesis, two correlation studies were conducted. A representative sample of 150 college students was obtained. The students completed the questionnaire of the two factors, SCL-90, the questionnaire of self-concept(It evaluates the complexity, positiveness, harmonization and definiteness of self-concept). Statistic analysis indicated that the two factors (1) respectively significantly related to almost all the 9 psycho-symptoms of SCL-90; (2) respectively significantly related to all the 4 aspects of self-concept. The important implications of the results were discussed.
